So..... I’m at Maxol garage and two guys just walked up from a local estate, one put his mask on and the other didn’t and both went into the shop for about 10 mins.

Over the last few weeks I have seen this on at least three occasions. What is happening? I asked the staff and they were told (rightly so) to not say anything as they don’t have security.

I am just baffled. Of all the things to be required to do, wearing a mask in a private enclosed business is not much. I have to stop myself from confronting them.

Any other such experiences? Any way to get the great unwashed to do what is needed?

My daughter works in a shop in the Pavillions and they have had quite a few with no masks coming in. Only management are allowed approach them about it, not the normal staff. She finds it very stressful.

I'm just back from Maxol. Three customers and at least one staff member with no masks. Not a word said to anyone. I won't be getting my fuel there any more and I'll be e-mailing them about it. It's just not good enough.

Just had a question. I know it’s a legal requirement for customers to wear masks in shop. However is it the same for those operating and serving to do so too? Food outlet in this area owners openly don’t wear masks. Doesn’t make sense if customers have to wear and operators handling and close contact to the food they are selling don’t have to?

According to the Citizens Information website it is "mandatory for retail staff to wear a face covering unless there is a partition or they take all reasonable steps to keep a 2-metre distance from others". If I'm thinking of the same place you're referring to, there is no room for a 2 metre distance on that premises. I don't shop there having read a Facebook statement they issued about customers not having to wear masks.

I have stopped buying there too. Couldn’t enjoy the product anymore thinking of them breathing talking laughing over it. Also think it’s pretty arrogant of them despite their customers mostly wearing masks going in.

Like others have said, have also had issues with Maxol. I wrote to them and asked them to sort these problems out and they didn't so don't go. Suggest others write and give out.

While we are on the topic. 50% of joggers are very good. The other 50% are shocking. Expecting others to get out of their way, running straight behind elderly people and not even saying thanks when you get out of their way.

You'd think after one year most people would realise this thing kills people and we just need to do what we were asked to.

I agree about the joggers and also kids on bikes being allowed come right up behind people while their parents do nothing. I stay in the fields of the park now and spend the rest of my time walking on the road as others just seem oblivious to leaving space.

I've emailed Maxol and got a standard response saying they'll be in contact to discuss the issues raised. If enough people contact them they might listen.

I'm pretty sure this is Bacus Beag. Nice people and great product but they openly don't wear masks, have said on social media they won't require masks and last year had a blackboard outside the shop saying masks weren't required on their premises. If they just didn't wear masks themselves and said nothing to people who walked in without one that's one thing, but the signs and social media stuff makes it a bit of a statement so I think it's perfectly acceptable to call it out and take issue with it.

Agree - will never shop there again.
If staff are not wearing masks then the minimum expectation is that a screen would be installed.
No hand sanitiser there either.
Not good enough.
Especially considering they’re serving food.

I thought one of the conditions of opening retail outlets was that staff and customers should wear masks. Why should some retail outlets go to the expense of providing sanitisers and masks for staff and customers and others just ignore the rules. Many non essential retail outlets would be more than happy to abide by the rules and open up

I have deliberately avoided that shop since they did that. People are dying, having their lives ruined or experiencing major mental health issues - wearing a mask to help keep the thing a bay is a tiny ask. They owners should have publicly apologised (we all make mistakes) but have never done that.

Large group of teenagers gathering in a far corner field of Newbridge house this evening.

I think people are going to have to accept the Lockdown is burning out.

May as well open up a bit and manage and monitor socialising properly.

I was there at the weekend and noticed this. Lovely bread, but was quite disgusted to be served by some dude not wearing one.

and the "I choose not wear a mask" people should be taken out and beaten with a big stick.

Why not up it to actual punishment beatings, health and moral would improve 10 fold!

So another guy with no mask in Maxol. Gets coffee for him and wife ( in car) then goes back in to use toilet. Older woman confronts him and he said that she was wearing a mask so what is she worried about.

Was in centra in malahide ( by estuary) and couple with no masks getting coffee. Both looked like early twenties....

The mind boggles.

I read this recently ..... after seeing what people’s reactions to covid are, if there was a zombie invasion there would be a Zombie Rights Alliance where uninflected would want to be bitten and arguing for zombies to be allowed roam around 😜

Not a covid conspiracy theorist but I hate to break it to the guy saying keep lockdown going...
If people dont want to comply with lock down restrictions they wont simple lock down becomes less effective over time I think cause people get fed up and already are taking a mile.

If a staff member isnt wearing a mask they might have a medical reason you dont know. I would assume their mangers have already said it to them as many other Maxol staff wear them

There aren't many medical reasons to be fair. If they don't care about masks what else? Are the making employees with the sniffles come to work? Do they even clean the jacks? It's basic hygiene.

If you can't wear a mask, you can wear a visor. There's no excuses.
