Re: Hall Doors

I got one earlier this year from Fairco Windows. They have a show room on old airport road. We're happy with our new door.

The new development looks impressive alright but there's one thing that they forgot to include which would have made it perfect, there's no bookies........

Re: Dog owners

As part of a college course we investigated the health issues of dog waste on children. It's pretty horrific when you see the results on kids when they come in contact with faeces. I saw one video where a toddler had lost the sight in one eye as a result of falling on dog faeces in a public park and...

Hey Sidney, my advice is to go travelling without the kids. If they're big enough to be in DCC they're big enough to look after themselves :)

Re: Accident at Portrane cliffs last night

I just heard this evening that this young man is a neighbour of mine here in Donabate. This is not the first time a tragedy has been visited on this family so my thoughts are with his family and the pain they are going through at the present. I hope for the best but, as I understand it, the prognosi...

I noticed that too. I see this article in the paper saying that prices have bottomed out and are now going back up again.

Re: Bus stuff

I would be interesting to see what effect the privatisation of 33B would have on it's timetable. I presume there would be minimum levels of service required to get the licence. I wonder would the Authority consider extending the route to the airport. For those working in the airport it would mean ju...

Re: Cliff walk query

I use an app called MapMyWalk and I live near the Life Chemist. When I do a lap down the Portrane Road, along the cliff walk and back up the New Road it clocks at 5.4 miles. As a matter of interest it's exactly one mile from the rock at the start of the cliff walk at the Tower Bay car park in Portra...

Re: Community Crime

I must say I like this idea. I don't understand why people would get upset by the presence of CCTV if they are doing nothing wrong.
I had a look at the website and I couldn't see what the cost is for private residents. Can you let me know where this is? If it's not too expensive I'd be happy to join.

Re: Historical Society, where art thou

I don't think Peadar lives at that address anymore but he may still be using the email address. If you have a look in the library they should have a copy of Donabate & Portrane - History published by Peadar in 2001 which may have what you are looking for. You say in your post that you are lookin...

Re: Solar Energy

I got solar panels in two years ago and I'm happy with them. As well as the panels, a 300 litre hot water tank was put in the hot press. Over the summer there was quite a lot of sunshine so there was plenty of water for showers etc without having the gas on to heat the water. Even in winter there wi...

Euro Lotto winner in Donabate??

I've just been to the Supervalu and there is a news camera crew set up beside the chemist. There is a strong rumour that the winning ticket was bought in Donabate. It could be you because, sadly, it's not me :( http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/news/is-it-you-euromillions-bonanza-winner-contacts-...

Re: Donabate Community College

Mom, I would take these speculations with a large pinch of salt. While there are teenagers leaving the parish to go to school, I would be sceptical of claims like this. My youngest is in the College and we are happy to have her there. Her two older siblings went to school outside the parish and life...

Re: Donabate Community College

I wonder why the departure of the principal is not up on the school website? I would have thought his departure, however temporary, is a newsworthy item and should have appeared in the latest news section.

Water pressure in Donabate

Has anyone else experienced an increase in the mains water pressure in Donabate? Up to today the pressure was fine but today the pressure seems to be increased a fair bit. I only have to turn on the tap a small bit and the flow is strong. Is my tap developing a fault of is anyone else experiencing i...

Re: Local Elections 2014

Well, its done and dusted now so we have who we have. As regards the candidates who didn't make it this time, I'm reminded of a quote from an American politician called Richard Tuck who famously said after failing to get elected on one occasion during the 1960s, "the people have spoken, the bas...

Re: CCTV

As well as the cameras, there are a number of traffic counter cables on roads leading into the village. My guess is that the cameras are part of the traffic monitoring that's going on.
