Hey, does anyone know much about the local independent candidates?

I've seen a few posters around, such as Paul Mulville, but unsure about their experience/policies.

From what I've seen, this is as good a reason as any for giving a No. 1 vote.

The Fingal County Council website fives a list of all the candidates.

http://www.fingalcoco.ie/media/Notice%2 ... Swords.pdf

In our ward there is a mammoth total of 26 candidates, 13 of them are down as Non-Party and others are members of parties or alliances that are so small that they might as well be independent too.

Seven of the candidates are from Donabate/Portrane and four of these (Tony O'Byrne, Michael Collins, Fergal O'Connell and Paul Mulville) are Independents.

This will split the Donabate vote to the extent that it's very hard to see any of the seven Donabate candidates getting a seat.

Of the four Donabate independents Michael Collins is well known to most of us and has done plenty of canvassing, Paul Mulville was, I believe, the Parliamentary secretary to Patrick Nulty TD who recently had to resign i disgrace leaving Mr. Mulville unemployed, unfortunately. I know nothing about the other two Donabate independents. If they've done any campaigning I must have missed it.

I am going
1. Uncle Bob - (Tennis / Swimming club)
2. Henchman - (Hockey, G.A.A. - would get number one if not in FF).
3. Show me the (lack of) money - He has had his chance for years now and I just don't see what he has done that is of any significance. Also, thought he could have done more about one or two issues.
4. Mulville (Independent, don't think he's a freak. Not sure what he stands for thou).
5. Green party

Would vote for more independents but some of them just like they are engaging in populist politics. I prefer people who have some sort of track record.

So as you can see I am basing my vote on who lives in Donabate an what their track record is for community activism.

Yeah, I have to say the Henchy posters are unusual. It's a bit like he's sticking his head around the door and going 'Peek-a-boo!'. A bit un-nerving when he jumps at you from behind a hedge.

Still can't bring myself to vote FF though. I think they need one more election cycle in the wilderness.

At the last election. Gerry McGuire's canvassers stuck a 'Sorry I missed you' note through the door without knocking. I haven't heard a peep from him on anything local, so no vote there. Also Labour types like Aodhan O'Riordain are somewhat up their own arse 'worthy' PC types, so meh for Labour.

That leaves Bob Dowling. FG aren't popular with some, but I think as a party I'll judge them after the next election when they can't blame FF anymore.

Non of the Independents have said anything other than they are pished off with everything. The Ken Doyle guy looks a bit rough and ready so I might give him a vote cos I like Clare Daly even though she's a Socialist dreamer.

Another independent has emerged over the last few day (well I've just saw his mug shot in the last day or two) - Anthony Moore, he's leaving it a bit late at this stage. I know nothing about his mandate other than his slogan which is something along the lines of a real voice for real people.

I'll be glad when Friday has come and gone and those god awful mug shots are all gone.
