Just seen this !

Work to repair major leak on trunk main serving North County.
There is a major water leak on the main serving most of the North County. Due to the water loss and risk of structural damage it is essential that repairs are made.
Preparation work has been done and it is the intention to turn off the water supply today (Thursday) for approximately 3- 4 hours to make the actual repair. It is likely that the start time for this outage is going to be 11.00am.
Further updates will be posted if the need arises.
Areas affected: Lissenhall, Hearse Road, Turvey, Corduff, Donabate (All), Portrane (All), Lusk (All), Rush (All), Balough, Loughshinney
Other areas in North Fingal may experience low pressure during the shut off period.
We apologise in advance to consumers who may be affected by this disruption to their water supply.

im not trying to be awkward or anything here but this is a genuine question.

when we begin paying for our water service, of which we will have a 'connection/supply/whatever you want to call it charge', will we be able to have that fee reduced for outages such as this?

i know the answer is probably no, but legally will we have the right to get a refund for the duration of any outages?

thankfully we don't have many outages, but that's not to say that we wont going forward.

by the way, thanks for posting up that notice!

We'll be charged for what we use. If it is cut off there will be no water used, no charge, so nothing to refund.

i was under the impression we were going to be charged a standard charge on top of a usage charge, like we are for Gas and Electricity.

you know the one they will be charging you to cover the cost of installation (even though it will be an ongoing charge forever!)

I'd say that will just about cover 3 cups of tea and 1 flush of the toilet. Everything else we'll pay for. Including Irish Water staff bonuses for turning up for work more or less on time, most days.

Your comment made me giggle but on a more serious note - you are probably very close to the mark unfortunately.

Our water wasn't turned off up the top of the Beaverstown Road. Was anyone else's cut off?

No Ken, we've had perfect pressure.
