Cat Mess

Hi,
I'm living in Cars Mill and every few weeks I’ve to clean up a mess left from cats.
The grass out the front of the house and the back garden both have scattered bald patches from where the cats left their mess and I’ve cleaned it up after them. Not to mention how unhygienic this is with kids around.
I’ve clear bottles all over the back garden and the cats are actually passing by the bottles so this clearly isn’t working and I bought non chemical deterrent that costs a bit.
This is a real nuisance and disgusting.
Has anyone else had this issue and any ideas on what to do?

We used to have a lot of problems with cat mess in the garden, but that stopped when we got a dog :D .

Unfortunately that's been replaced with dog mess, but at least it's our dog's mess.

Don't get me started on the state of the grass verges and footpaths around Donabate. It's a disgrace.

I had a bad problem in a rental place before that has stones in the back 'garden'. It had been vacant for a while and all the cats in the neighbourhood were using it I'd say. I ended up using this green gel like this stuff;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Keep-off-Dete ... 0712589474 and after a few applications it worked well.

All this and we had a dog too, they used to just sit on the wall and taunt her :)

Thanks for the replies.

A dog is a defo no go.
My back garden is quite large and they leave a mess in different locations all the time so if I were to purchase repellent the cost would be sufficient.

Maybe some of the cats are ferrel but for those that are not shouldn't the owners take responsibility.

My mother had cats and as far as I was aware they were trained to use the litter tray in the garden shed. I can't be sure they didn't mess elsewhere but I'd guess most of the time they used it.
