Bit surprised no one has posted about this yet:

A worrying development, but thankfully it sounds like no one was hurt.

Hopefully the staff and customers there at the time haven't been too shook up.

One weird positive of an incident of this nature is that it could be the catalyst to finally bring about a much-needed police station on the peninsula.

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a development. Just a one off. Whoever has done it probably isn’t local to the area and is unlikely to try the same truck here again.

As regards a Garda station, it says that Gardai were on the scene within minutes, so I’m not sure what it will do beyond that, but it highlights the necessity of Gardaí nearby.

I think what we need is a constant Garda patrol. Certainly between 8am and 10pm, we should have a Garda car on the peninsula, or else off the peninsula but working on our matters. I don’t care if the station is in Donabate, Swords, Balbriggan or the moon. We could get a station which sits empty and be no better off. We need uniforms, cop cars, feet on the street. Not a station.
