Open spaces in new estates are important to Fingal.

They are places where residents of all ages can get outside.

This is why open spaces are seen as such a high priority to the council.

In fact, they are such a high priority that Fingal allows developers to buy their way out of providing open spaces.

Just think about that for a minute, Fingal has turned the provision of open spaces into a tidy little revenue generator.

The money levied on recent estates is:

Beresford - €640,107
Rahillion - €288,301
Glaslinn - €80,410
Orchard View - €89,326

That is nearly €1.1 million in total!

The amount of open space that was reduced in each estate was:

Rahillion - 1.4415 acres
Orchard View - 0.3761 acres
Glaslinn - 0.3385 acres
Beresford - 2.695 acres

In other words, a total of 4.6 acres of open space was eliminated from new developments.

Fingal is required by law to ringfence this money to use solely for the purpose of upgrading local parks to compensate for the lack of open space.

To our knowledge, Fingal has not upgraded any local parks using this money.

This raises the question: what is Fingal doing with this €1.1 million?

They must be swamped with all this money!

This is a thundering disgrace. How is Fingal being allowed to jepardise the health and well-being of the people of Donabate, and particularly that of the children of Donabate, in return for a grubby handfull of silver?
