Women's Interest in Football

Hi all,

Just posting this mainly out of interest and curiosity. I just wanted to see if there was any interest from women in the community in playing football (soccer) locally in Donabate? I've lived in the area for 20 years and unfortunately was never able to progress with playing in Donabate as there was no girls/women's football club. I had to play for another team in North Dublin and it's just a shame that there's nothing for women here. I believe there might now be a girls team with St. Ita's which is fantastic? If that's still ongoing that is?

But just trying to gage if there is actually any interest in women over 18 playing either 11 a side on the astro turf or 5 a side indoor in the community centre?

Not expecting much response but at the stage where I want to get back into it just to play for fun and would love to see something develop for women here in Donabate. Or maybe there is something here and I'm just not aware of it?

Please comment below any thoughts.

Hi Butterfly,
St Ita's girls section is going from strength. Going into the new season we will have teams in leagues from under 10 up to under 17. We are always looking for new members and really always looking for new coaches, maybe this would interest you?
Get in touch through the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stitasgirlsafc/ or pop down to the mini euros next week on the hospital pitches every evening from 6:30. You will see the girls in action then and you can speak to one of the coaches from the girls section.

All the best

Hi IPAst,

Thanks for the reply, appreciate the info. Great to hear that the girls teams are doing so well, such potential for future womens football. I will pop down to mini euros at some stage this week to have a chat and to cheer on the girls. Thanks again.

On a separate note, I know that the men have indoor futsal and 11 a side which is great. But if anyone has any interest in doing a casual non-competitive 5 a side in the Community Centre let me know. Would be nice to do one evening a week mixed men and women for people that work and just want to let off a bit of steam and have some fun. Comment below if anyone interested.
