A delegation from community groups in Donabate and Portrane including Donabate Portrane Community Council and SPDD (Supporting Proper Development in Donabate) met Irish rail in recent days.

The delegation raised its concerns at the serious congestion at peak times experienced by commuters on the northern commuter line.

While the meeting was positive in terms of recognition of the issues faced by commuters on a daily basis, the delegation was advised that there would be no significant improvements until at least 2021.

The delegation raised its concerns that Fingal is the fastest growing population in Europe with passenger numbers up 5% year on year on already record numbers on this route, and must be prioritised in terms of addressing infrastructural deficiencies to the Rail and Bus network.

Donabate Portrane Community Council raised these issues at the Fingal County Council’s Public Participation Network planning, housing and transport linkage group meeting last week also.

Please sign and share petition below calling on the Minister for Transport Shane Ross and NTA to prioritise and urgently ringfence the necessary funding required to address this.

In the interim Donabate Portrane Community Council is calling on the Minister For Transport and NTA to provide direct bus services into and out of the city centre at peak times to alleviate the congestion on the trains.

Donabate Portrane Community Council is calling on all community groups along this rail line to support and share this petition as a matter of urgency.
