Disgusting behaviour, but calling the police like, surely they have better things to be doing. Why not let a shout at them .

Given the trouble at the station recently informing the police is probably not a bad idea, although of course, they would no doubt have worse stuff they could be dealing with. Have to say that in this day and age, starting a shouting match can quickly escalate into something much more serious!!!

+1 calling the police. Well done. If they are the type that spit on people, they are not the type that will ever listen to anyone but the police.

I was not saying have a shouting match , what I was saying was let a shout at them and tell them to stop. The Gardai were close by which I didn't realise when I first posted. But for anyone to actually telephone the Gardai for something like this is really wasting valuable gardai time.

Please ignore this advice. Calling the Gardai for anti-social behaviour is not wasting their time. This is exactly what they are paid to do.

If someone were to let a roar at them and then they decided to attack that person with a knife, it wouldn't be avery clever idea then.

Call the Guards. Definately.
As well as anything, it logs it as another incident in Donabate for the statistics.

yes, yes i do. you think the people doing the shooting were nice friendly kids with plenty of discipline when they were younger?

are you happy to ignore anti-social behaviour until such a point that the people doing it become the major criminals of tomorrow?

anyway, ring your local Garda station and ask them what to do in the event you see such anti-social behaviour. that will answer your question correctly.

Probably not a bad idea to let the gardai know about it.
They themselves will decide if they have the resources to come out and investigate. If not at least they will know about it. Any incidents like this should be videoed if possible. Passing the recordings on to the gardai could be more successful as the offenders could then be identified.

we are clearly going to have to agree to disagree on this, but my point is, ask the Gardai what to do in this situation. I can assure you they will tell you to report it.

Thing is, the Guards don't have the resources that they need at the moment. If the crime figures are skewed by not reporting crime because you feel it is wasting their time (exactly as the powers that be would like), then they will never get extra resources. By reporting crime, it increases the chances of us havign more resources allocated to Donabate/Portrane.

I'm speaking as someone with a family member who is a Guard and who I have had this conversation with many times.

Sorry pal you are just showing yourself for a fool ..these scrotes only understand hard lessons ,,,shouting as other peeps have said can only escalate into worse trouble ..why should they put themselves in danger ..just catch one or two of these scrotes ..throw the book at them ...and their parents ...and see them shut the fcuck up !

For a start I am not your pal and I'm certainly no fool. 'Throw the book at these Scrotes' honestly ? , You need to educate yourself by going to a sitting of the Childrens Court in Smithfield. There you will see children with numerous serious charges and now not a charge for spitting , walking out the door that they just came in. Im not for one minute condoning this behavior, but I really dont think it warrants deploying a garda car from Swords Garda station, when there is more serious crimes happening that these gardai could be attending.

you're missing the point. By not calling in this anti-social behaviour (and i presume you do class this as anti-social behaviour...which is of course a crime), you are allowing our government to say that crime figures are down, further allowing them to reduce Garda numbers or deploy them elsewhere such as water meter installations.

by reporting the above mentioned crime, it will be logged in the system and treated as a crime. whether or not they decide to send a car out is their business, but it adds to the real figure of crime on the peninsula and as long as its logged, there is always a chance, albeit small, of at some stage getting extra resources out here.

Call it in, if the Gaurds decide it's not worth calling out for then fine. But call it in all the same

No I totally understand what you are saying but thats also a double sided sword, if people report a petty crime like this yes it's down as a crime and yes the crime satistic's will rise in Donabate but when you go to sell your house in Donabate it wont fetch as much because statistically you are living in an area with a high crime rate.

What about those of us not selling out house and just don't like scumbags walking around where we live spitting at people? I'd prefer the scumbags went up to your gaf mirror. You could invite them in for a shouting match and a few beers. It's up to you.

William Bratton the police chief who cleaned up New York City in the 1990s, based his policies on zero tolerance of any kind of anti-social behaviour.

If there were guards in the area, then definitely call them. Not every offence they deal with has to be drugs or a domestic.

Are you seriously suggesting that people should ignore antisocial activity around one of the main focal points of Donabate just in case our crime statistics disimprove and they get slightly less for their house in years to come on foot of it? If this kind of stuff continues, then the nice decorative fence in the train station will be replaced with a steel one and the place will be given a more howth junction-like design. What do you think that will say to prospective house buyers about the area?

The irony isn't lost on me that this thread is about miscreant kids, yet some of the comments and insults in this thread are pretty poor TBH. It's not just those idiots spitting that need to grow up.

yep, you got it, pyramid of consequence, for a number of low incidents there's a corresponding higher level incident.
