Noticed local guy with his homes as seen in Jones Garden Centre claims he can do it for 130k all in and they look grand .

The idea got thrown out of Balbriggan, Ballymun and Rush as far as I know. Their trying it on now in Swords and Donabate...

Why don't they try Malahide for a change, I'm sure they'd be delighted

I am going to follow up tomorrow with the Council to find out the exact location in Donabate. I will let you know when I find out more information.

Am I the only person that thinks Modular Houses look like glorified shipping containers?

this isn't specifically to do with modular housing, but with increasing the population of Donabate in general.....

we know that the latest LAP plans to increase the population of Donabate from it's current approx 8000 to somewhere in the region of 20,000.

we also know that the LAP has provisions in place to increase everything else that goes along with a population increase from roads, to shops to schools, transport etc.

however we also know (or maybe it's just my cynical opinion), that the LAP is produced with all the bells and whistles simply to get passed. We know that the population will be increased first, hundreds of houses will be built, and in 10 years time we will all be giving out because only about 10% of the proposed infrastructure will have been built.

we don't for example have a sufficient transport system to cater for the current population. We have buses that go to Swords, overcrowded rush-hour trains, and a train service that runs every 2 hours on a Sunday.

The result is that we have thousands of people driving into and out of Donabate that shouldn't have to. On 1 of only 2 roads in and out of the town. Take Newbridge park on a sunny Sunday for example. It is absolutely packed, but the vast majority drive there because the trains only run every couple of hours.

Anyway, my point is that we are a dumping ground for everything here. I have no problem if we had the infrastructure in place, but we don't. And we simply wont have it in place before our population doubles.

I love this place, but can you imagine it with twice as many people living here?

I agree with both posts it's modular housing(groups of them) and the lack of infrastructure that are going to cause problems. I suggest that we all lobby our Fingal councillors not just Adrian Henchy(I'm guilty as sin of this so it's more a reminder to myself) otherwise this is only the start of Donabate being side tracked. Do wonder if we're being seen as a soft target? Balbriggan and Rush lobbied hard on this and think we have to do the same.

I would also suggest you continue to lobby all local Councillors and TD’s.Once I have confirmation of the site I will let you know". I'll get on to the Somerton/Carrs Mill Association - does anyone else have contact with their residents association?

This is a pretty serious development. We need to stay on top of this one. I think the whole modular housing concept is an exercise in kicking the housing can down the road. It's a potential for mini ghettos.

We've had enough of other areas problems being dumped in Donabate.

Yes guys we should stay in top of this and shut it down. I see Balbriggan and Rush stood up for there towns and rejected this and so should we. Now I know all the do gooders will moan about this but projects like this spell trouble. I know not.everyone that will avail of these will be like that but some will. Thats the reality, just look around at the antidocial behaviour and it all originates from places like that. I see only 1 of the projected sites was approved through fingal so this has now been kicked down to us. Also Donabate is essentially a village so the impact will be greater than in other areas. There is no guarntee genuine decent people will get these and that is the worry. Also it was the Howth and Malahide councillors who brought this up...they obviously dont want them. I would ask everyone to have some respect for your area and stand up to the councillors who try force this. It wont affect them...it will affect the people who live in the towns. Fairplay to Rush for rejecting it. Our turn now. Also this was kept very quiet. I didnt see anything before this post. Maybe someobe can put in aby local residents association etc as we all need to combine for this. Donabate seemed to already take its fair share already.

This is a very serious topic, and one that requires proper engagement and representation for the entire Donabate community. Whilst speaking to one of my neighbours yesterday, I was made aware of the Donabate community council, who are the umbrella representation for all of the residential groups. I have to say, I had not heard of them before, but did a search and found their website:

I imagine a lot of people on this board are probably very familiar with them, but it was the first I had heard of them. I wonder if any of the representatives are in attendance on this board, and could maybe provide some advice as to how as a community, we get together and address all of the issues, particularly in view of the current projects planned / underway?

I see there is nothing on that website about this. Im a little disappointed as it seems we're not really been told about this and we live here.

I have no problem with them putting some Modular housing in Donabate as long as they put the same amount in Malahide and Portmarnock!!! I doubt it.

Modular housing? They call them trailer parks in the States. Good luck selling your house if one of those gets planted next to you.

Well Kaner. Everyone should write a short email pointing out that Donabate has no bus service into town, few amenities and has already got the Sophia housing project and a facility for troubled young people in Portrane.

Emailed the Community Council the other day they hadn't received any communication from FCC or anyone else on it. Their going to update us when they receive any info on it. I've emailed TD's and councillors. Will pop into the TD clinics too.
