Thank you for your post Ciaran. This forum does a great disservice, giving the misperception that all of the peninsula is closed minded, provincial and unkind. Well done in speaking for the rest of us.

Would you prefer to give the impression that we don't care about law breaking, intimidation of residents, abuse of the elderly and destruction of private property?

All the above and more happened over 10 days.

Obviously you were not impacted by the illegal encampment of near 200 individuals.

I will take your moral superiority seriously when you experience some of the above listed offences.

it's fairly worrying when some people defend this type of behaviour simply because the group of people involved are classed as marginalised. thankfully though, people that defend it are in the minority.

regardless of what ethnic minority or non ethnic minority these people are, the level of violence, intimidation and destruction that this specific group of people left behind was astonishing. Astonishing yet not surprising. I'm referring to this specific group of people who arrived there and not anyone else.

You would do well to go and speak to some of the residents there to find out exactly what went on.

The main problem here is that not one of those people will face charges for anything. not one. despite the violence, intimidation and wanton destruction that went on.

Be careful though if you drop an ice cream wrapper on the ground or dont pay your TV licence, you'll be done for!

Nobody was arguing that the behaviour was acceptable. What was being called out was wide sweeping remarks suggesting that this behaviour is representative of all Travellers.

Ciaran isn’t ‘speaking for The rest of us’, I can guarantee you that. There’s no misperception either - people are absolutely within their rights to want the best for their families and their locality, and to not have to deal with the aforementioned shennanigans caused by a cohort we have become too afraid to comment upon for fear of the virtue-signalling army labelling us closed-minded. I would argue you represent the epitome of closed-mindedness, that is, don’t listen to reason, ignore facts, blindly supporting a whole cohort of society based on their ethnicity. Remove the ethnicity/minority aspect from the equation, would you support the actions recently witnessed in/around Donabate?

I concur with the majority on here.
It's absolute scumbag behaviour from a group of horrible scumbags. Their ethnicity/resident status is irrelevant. Their behaviour is scummy.

My partner drove past the encampment one morning with our young daughter and saw one middle age man standing at the side of the road in nothing more than a t-shirt exposing himself from the waist down. Normal people regardless of background don't do this. I'm not even going to bother quantifying what I mean by normal as it shouldn't have to be said.

FYI

The same group who initially set up an illegal encampment on the grounds of the old Turvey Golf Club, attempted to gain access again on Sunday.

The residents were able to prevent this from happening.

This group are now set up off the new road. They were there yesterday. Unsure if they are still there.

Now 15 caravans pitched up on the old service road towards ballymastone. Seen Garda and lorry with concrete blocks there, having a stand off.

Another payoff deal struck with Fingal. Why do you think they come to Donabate so often. Makes me wonder why i do tax returns when it ends up being squandered by Fingal and other local authorities to pay off these shower of parasites. <Admin Edit>. Please see my post below.

We have received a number of reports about his post. It's a delicate matter, but nonetheless having an impact on the peninsula. Please keep it factual and relevant to the area. Please refrain from wide sweeping remarks about the Travelling community.

So with Dublin in Level 3 lockdown travelling communities are let travel around, set up wherever they can or choose.

Now there are talks of a Nationwide level 5 lockdown.

These travelling communities need to move away from the peninsular where we can lockdown safely without risk of unknowns.

Now more than ever, do we need a fixed Garda presence either on the peninsular or out by the M1.
Maybe move Swords Garda station out of the town center and build a new one by the M1 junction at Lissenhall

When they arrived back in August, they said they were here cocooning

As far as I know, they headed off last night by 8.30 there were only 2 left and they looked they were packed up ready to go.

I hope anywhere that could be a potential site for them now will be secured and extra measures put in place where possible to ensure they can't gain access to Private or Council property.

This message is intended for those who spoke so highly of the travellers. Will you please organise yourselves and bring along plenty of rubbish bags to clear the mess your proteges left behind on their halting site.. We hope to see you there in the morning.

It's well for them, Nice concrete paved area and a lake side view.
My guess is that they are settling down there for the winter.

Apparently they can't be moved because of the Covid situation. Just saying what I heard.

I thought they were all gone?

I believe during lockdown earlier this year, they set up camp in the Curragh and couldn't be moved due to lockdown. As we aren't at level 5 yet, I don't think Covid can be used as a reason.

I drove by yesterday afternoon and the site was cleared. FCC were doing a cleanup and putting concrete bollards in place.

For illegal encampments contact fingal county council, if on Council land.

When they were illegally on private property the gardai were also called.

Quite a few caravans down there now.

Council should take a drive around the area and block off those obvious staging areas.

They have all gone.

I wonder how much it costs to do a clean up each time? Hopefully there won't be too much damage.
