Surprised at the absence of any discussion on these. As you probably know we've had a couple of significant power cuts recently: five and a half hours on a Friday night a few weeks ago and two hours on Sunday 20th July.
ESB Networks aren't exactly easy to get answers from, however having persevered I finally got a manager on the phone a few days ago. Apparently, both major outages were the result of metal theft - specifically copper. When seven thousand people plus can be without electricity for several hours as a result of these skangers, it's getting pretty serious.

I'm in The Gallery and we have been subject to these cuts. They're happening far too often.
Yours Sincerely, JPX
Sorry for the delay in replying.
Yes, I'm also in the Gallery but I can assure you that the outages were over a wide area. On the Friday night, it was dark in all areas as far as I could see (Beverton mainly) but the sky was basically dark. All of the burglar alarms were going off.
On the Sunday morning, I was actually at the railway station when it went off but again it was the alarms that alerted me to the outage. When I got home later in the day, I could tell from the central heating timer that the power had been off for two hours.
Surprised to hear that some weren't affected.

Seems to be just The Gallery. I could see that the village and the apartments across the track were lit.

I was on the phone last night when the power went off in Turvey. My friend on the other end of the line who lives in Lusk said the power went down with her at the same time.
We live in Beverton and were in darkness for the same period.
Good app you can download (apple not sure about Android etc)called Powercheck by ESB and it shows you in real time were the faults are how many people affected and when they hoped to reconnect. I checked it last night and it said about 10.30 pm and the power came back at 10.15 ish !

I see early in the thread that metal theft is given as the reason for recent outages....i've lived here for 14 years and relative to friends from outside the area, we get lots more power cuts..and I suspect something else is to blame...just dont know what...yet

The Priory, Links and Sommerton had a power cut from 5.30 pm - 7pm last night.
The ESB account on twitter said today that they'd identified the fault that I presume had been causing the recent outages.
I remember the power going around midday in Donabate on Christmas day a good few years back, turkey was half way through cooking

About 15 years ago, we lost power on the 27th and we didn't get it back until New Years Eve. We used to be on an old line that served Rush at the top of the Beaverstown Road and it took them days to figure out the problem. We even had them on the phone arguing that the power was back even though we were sitting in the dark.
Luckily we'd no kids then (or fish tanks). We just packed up on the 28th and went to my Father in Law's place in Monaghan until the New Year.

I was driving down from the M1 towards Turvey Ave when all the lights went off, even the street lights up to the M1 were out. I believe there was more than 3500+ houses affected. There have been too many power cuts recently, it is getting beyond a joke at this stage.
