So FF are back to number one in opinion polls. If you have to pick one party who would you vote for?

I'd find it difficult to vote for FG/Labour in the near future given they broke their election promises. I know they all do, but FG really take the biscuit.

FF haven't changed in my eyes and a couple of years in the wilderness will not change their culture at grass roots level.

I've nothing in common with the Socialist Party, Sinn Fein, etc. so will probably look to vote independent.

I think Labour will take a PD/Green Party like hit at the next election. They have really sold out in the eyes of many of their supporters.
Regards,

Ken.

I agree with you about Labour but they will collapse for different reasons to PD/ Greens.
Two types of people voted for Labour

1. People who went for all their populist stuff where you could somehow get out of economic collapse by not cutting anything.

2. Public sector people.

Both had unrealistic expectations. The public sector have got 650 million in increments since Labour took office. But you see the thing is the inevitable cuts are not going to go down well. They have unrealistic expectations and expect not to have any cuts. They are going to turn on Labour for this and not sure who'll they vote for.

The PDs collapsed because they were incapable of selling their message and track record in government. Green's collapsed because they were getting an iconoclastic vote because they spent their lives in opposition. They when they took power, they lost that vote.

FG / Labour have been pretty disappointing but one thing I'd give them credit for they are getting a huge amount of investment into the country. If you follow Richard Bruton's facebook, every second day he has an announcement about more jobs and investment.

To be honest I'm far more impressed by the current government that I thought I would be.

They inherited such an unholy mess from Fianna Fail that I thought progress would be impossible. I was firmly convinced the country was screwed for a generation or two.

But in spite of some of the problems they've had (James Reilly for instance) I think they're doing better than anyone could have expected. The news that the number of people in employment actually increased for the first time since 2008 is the first sign that there may be light at the end of the tunnel. But, thanks to Fianna Fail it's likely to be a very, very long tunnel and we'll be paying Water charges and the Property tax before we reach the end.

The deals they've done on pushing our debt repayments into the future will save us billions and help the country rebuild its economy. Another deal would on the AIB/BOI debt would be even better. Hopefully that will happen soon. At the moment I'd give the government a B+ but if they manage to strike a deal on AIB/BOI I'd make it an A. And I've never been a fan of FG in the past. I always considered them too right wing and farmer orientated for my taste. But credit where it's dues, I'd give them a higher vote than i used to if there was an election tomorrow.

I agree the public sector cuts will hurt Labour. The public sector probably would have done even worse if they were dealing with a Minister from any other party but people don't really think logically like that and they're more likely to punish the party that delivers the cuts rather than the party ultimately responsible for them.

But when you think about it, what are the alternatives to the current government? The economic madness of Sinn Fein? The legendary incompetence of Fianna Fail? And no independent has ever achieved anything and some, like the Healy Raes and Ming make their constituents look like idiots.

I'm not surprised FF still have big support. A lot of people did very well out of them... more than would care to admit.

I also think they are more the party of the ordinary public sector than Labour... even though Labour are tied to the unions.

FF for all their warts are a close fit for the ordinary Irish Joe. Especially down the country.

On perfomance, I'll give FG number one then Clare Daly number 2.

To be honest your mention of him is the first time I've heard his name, albeit I've only been in Donabate since 2008 and wasn't very interested in politics for the last local election.
