Embarrassed to be from Donabate

I am so embarrassed and upset.Just spent the last 50mins being beeped at and shouted at in Donabate Village,my crime,my car broken down in the main street just outside Boyle Sports.I have to say the women were the worst!!!! Not one offer of help but plenty of time to roll down their window and hurl abuse.Thank you fellow neighbours and you all should be so proud of yourselves .

Truly sorry to hear it I think a lot of it stems from people who use the footpath and roads as parking spaces, so when something legitimately does happen, people assume someone's just being inconsiderate. Hoping the rest of your day is better. Sounds like a Ben & Jerry's kind of day.

Same happened to us a year ago when our car broke down opposite the entrance to super value. It should have been obvious the car was broke down and wife on her own so she couldn't push car off the road. Traffic could still get by by interleaving but were pissed off that we added a second or two on to their journey home to their apartment or in to super valu.

Ye would wonder how these people cope with every day traffic congestion in the city.

Were you just sitting there in the car, with park anywhere lights on? If so then that would probably explain people likely thinking you were picking up Mr.Lady from a session at the bookies.

If you've broken down, it's always best IMO to lift the bonnet and stare blankly at the engine, you get more offers of help that way.

Very sorry to hear you had that experience, that is shocking behaviour and not what I would expect from the community. I hope whoever took part sees your post and is ashamed of themselves.

Mr Blowin, thanks for the tip on opening the bonnet, I'm not sure I would have thought of that in a similar situation but definitely something I remember if something similar ever happens to me.

ah theres a lot of people just stop and stick their hazards on to go and use the atm or pop into bookies. I have driven past a ton of people with their hazards on "just stopping for a second' so i can understand why people wouldn't have realised it was a breakdown. they wouldnt have known you were that that long, they would have just driven past in a minute and not known the context of your breakdown or the amount of time you were there. I'd say you would have gotten help if you had the bonnet open or a hazard triangle out.

I don't think people were being rude or ignoring you. i'd say they thought you were just one of the hazard light atm-ers! if you had the bonnet up i'd say people would have helped

I hope so Paddi22, but even when I told the people who stopped to shout not one offered help and about 8 people stopped to rant, I never thought to put up the hood ,just wanted ground to open up.But hey you live and learn.

Hi Lady, very sorry to hear that maybe next time lay on the road and have a blanket in the car ready that might kindle some spark of compassion and understanding to our extremely busy community who have no problem with the Gardaí parking there which I have seen numerous times, now I would be more impressed with their sense of outrage if they had the backbone to react to them in the same way

A few years ago, in Dublin city centre, a man had a heart attack at the wheel. Motorists beeped him, drove around him etc as he was dying at the wheel.

A taxi man passed him looked in, thought something looked odd, drove around the block again to get back to him, and assisted him. Too late in the end.

I saw something similar this morning a lady driving out of Supervalue on to Main st, not moving quick enough for the lad in the red car behind her, he proceeded to keep his finger on the car horn. This behaviour is intimidating and can cause accidents. Please show regard for other road users who may not be willing to take the risks you do.

I'm not making excuses for rude behaviour or not assisting someone in need of help like the lady above but it can be very frustrating when as happened yesterday you're coming through the village at 5 pm and someone stops outside post office , puts on hazards and then potters off to buy a stamp and post a letter !
the entire main street ground to a halt waiting on the person to come back as you couldn't overtake as there was too much traffic coming from the other direction ...and no I didn't beep or shout at them...I checked out the holiday deals in the travel shop window !!!

So, just witnessed a dark green 02 Renault stopped (not parked) outside SuperValu, on the main road opposite the bus stop.

No one around, but a queue of various people at the kiosk tills.

I did notice, 3 young children left in the car. Hazard lights on.
No hazard here, just a lazy person who is supposed to be a responsible adult.

1st idiotic behaviour, left a vehicle with children unattended on a main road when plenty of parking in close proximity.
2nd idiotic behaviour, stopped opposite a bus stop, in effect stopping all traffic.
3rd idiotic behaviour, child in front seat appeared younger than 12, without booster seat and seat belt around neck regions.

As luck would have it, there were no buses or emergency services trying to get through the village on this occasion.
Next time I'll take a picture and send it onto the Garda for being just plain irresponsible.

Don't be surprised at this behaviour buddy ...Paddy and Mary are prone to just park the car to suit themselves and can be shite lazy!
Mary was just "poppin in"to Super V for "a couple of minutes" and woulld probably tell you to f**k off if confronted.

Usual parking behaviour on New Road today. The Guards were there as I passed hopefully handing out tickets. I wonder do the ice cream connoisseurs still think it worth the effort if they have to slap an €80 fine on top of the cost of the ice cream?
