there a thread from earlier in the year, there is a ref to planning permission for a Supermarket unsure if defined as Aldi,

They'll just have to build a new cop shop / Wetherspoons / M&S and a Blue Car Only garage instead in the space.

Apparently permission was granted for the retail units, but the council wanted more apartments according to this article in The Times the other day :-

I would like to see a supermarket of some kind come in, there needs to be a bit of competition for supervalu. As for the feckin council wanting more apartments, they want to provide the bloody facilities/roads etc for those of us that already live here before they entice more people in.

Isn't it a bit strange/inconsistant that the council want increased density for the Gallery, the proposed estate beside the gallery and the estate to be built beside DPCC, but then go and grant permission for just 5 houses beside Smyths, and for those low density houses on Newbridge avenue? Must be some sort of a demarcation line south of Turvey Avenue.

All the social issues are on the far side of tracks. Methodone clinic, shelter, high density etc. Teenagers drinking behind supervalue, you name it...
