So just something I noticed over the last couple of days

1 The work on the new apartments on Turvey Avenue( near the station ) seems to have been suspended, cleaning truck blocking the entrance
2 New traffic survey cameras installed on the junction of Hearse Road and the Square

So anyone heard/know any rumours going on?

Interested to find out, work has stopped on those apartments for a few weeks.

New work started behind Smyths.

Anyone any word on Aldi?? I believe it's still with An Bord Pleanála.....

Also just noticed some site clearance going on.
The area immediately next to the station car park which has PP for a supermarket?

The one near the station may be the Tesco Express development (with associated Cafe) works. I'm just filled with too much Ennui to check. Ciao Bambini :ugeek:

And to add yet more

Traffic survey cameras now located outside of Smyth's along with a speed monitoring cable

Would be odd if it is a Tesco, because in a submission to the original planning application in 2015, Tesco said "...if permitted, would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area."

Whatever it is the plans that were given approval show 6 checkout lanes and the entire floor area for a supermarket. Tesco express seems like the best guess.

I thought planning permission was valid for 5 years. If so, the planning permission for that site would have expired and will have to be applied for again.

Agreed, that was the one I was looking at. The site is completely cleared now, let's hope they start building soon and we get a few new shops in the village.

Besides the welcome competition, we could really do with another supermarket to alleviate the congestion in the SuperValu carpark at peak times.

There is no commencement notice for this https://www.nbco.localgov.ie/en/bcms/se ... ority%3A31
so it could just be whoever is owning it cleaning it up for a nice halting site.

As people have pointed out, there is no commencement notice which is disappointing so it's either just a clean prior to commencement or getting ready to sell it 🤔

This is the BP case for the Aldi site. It appears to be still open. It was due to be decided on 20/10/2022, but that hasn't happened or the site hasn't been updated to reflect any decision..

I contacted the Bord today to ask about the status of this planning permission and they said it is at Inspectorate level but cannot give a date for the decision, he explained that once the Inspector completes their report it will go to the board for decision.

it's a pity that this application is being held up in the way that it is. When you look at the development already started in Donabate and the recent grants of permission to start building circa 3,000 housing units, this is going to be a badly needed facility, Think of the savings that it will offer families in Donabate against what they would pay for a weekly shop in the only supermarket in the village, in particular families that might not have access to a car to travel to Swords to get better value, they could shop in their own village.

As things stand today, even if the Bord were to grant permission today it would take at least 18-24 months for the store to be up and running.

Don't think anyone would disagree that Donabate needs more competition when it comes to places to shop, but that proposed site for the Aldi is pure idiocy and hopefully will get rejected.

We need a new supermarket, just not there.

Have to agree with you, can't get my head around that they would build the badly needed 2nd supermarket on one of the narrowest stretches of road in the village.

Because the land either side of the distributor road is more valuable for housing.

So rumour doing the rounds

According to rumour mill, while digging out for the underground parking etc. an underground stream was found this has put the development on hold while the engineers decide what to do next.

Anyone got a drone that they can fly over and see what they can see of a hole?
