Hi All

After a short break in August (when most of FCC are on holidays!) DP Crossroads is back to continue our campaign for the dedicated cultural and youth center on the peninsula.

We considered submitting our petition to the council in the Summer but realised that it would end up sitting unread on a desk for a few weeks.  Instead we decided to submit it to the full council before their meeting on 14th October.  We plan to organise a family friendly protest so please save the date.  More details will be sent out shortly.  If you haven't done so already, there is still time to add your name to the petition.  We'd love to get it to over 2k signatures so if you can, we'd really appreciate it if you could encourage your Donabate Portrane friends and neighbours to add their name to it too.  Click here :  https://chng.it/87w7XT7cKG There is no need to make a donation when change.org requests it.

The annual Bleeding Pig Cultural Festival was held over the previous two weeks.  Despite having the largest number of events (45!), this year, it was a real struggle to find appropriate venues to hold the various events and activities.  A central place to host the festival would ensure that more residents would be able to attend and participate in the different groups and activities - not just during the festival but on an ongoing basis.  The Lambay Cinema Club are going from strength to strength and have added extra dates to their September screening of Kneecap to facilitate demand (in St Patricks CoI).  Again, if there was a dedicated facility it would mean more people could attend these screenings on their own doorstep.

On the planning front, despite several objections, FCC granted permission to Phase 2 of Ballymastone.  As a next step we have submitted an appeal to An Bord Planala.  To be clear, our committee support housing development but it must be in accordance with FCC's own Local Area Development plan which is housing in tandem with community infrastructure.  As you are probably aware, the recent change in train timetables have caused chaos to commuting residents.  This situation will continue to decline as more and more houses are built.  This is just one example of poor phasing of housing & lack of infrastructure and the very real and negative impact it has on day to day lives of residents.

I attach our infographic for September which details some of our activities and data on the demographics driving our campaign.  For the most up to date news please follow us on our social media channels.

In case you missed it - just posting a link to the feature on Newstalk's Pat Kenny show, Monday 7th October highlighting lack of community infrastructure in rapidly expanding Donabate.

Sharing their thoughts were Ann Hogan from DP Crossroads alongside Councillor Corina Johnson, locals Amy Duffy and Patrick Lynn. All gave their insights into the effects of housing development without supporting infrastructure and how FCC have the power to rectify this (hint: by sticking to their own objectives as outlined in their statutory plans!).
