Re: Property Tax - it's here!
For me, the point is that the whole issue of the property tax has very quickly changed from will or won't pay to a ridiculous situation where a body charged with collecting taxes is issuing estimated valuations and bills to taxpayers, giving us the right to challenge the valuations whilst at the sam...

Re: Time to get a charter
Glad to hear it Mr. Stupid. Point 3 would appear very much needed. I have to say though that your championing of it reminds me of the time when I was growing up that a neighbour of ours, whose children were the greatest tearaways in the area, managed to make himself chairman of the local Neighbourho...

Re: Donabate Community College - cop on!!
Ok, since there have actually been some very balanced contributions here, I think I need to acknowledge that my argument regarding discipline might have cast me in a somewhat hardline light:) I completely agree that Educate Together has brought a most welcome new approach to the running of schools a...

Re: Donabate Community College - cop on!!
Firstly, it is very wrong to name the young person here. Suspension from school is a serious matter and it is very possible that the parents will pursue avenues of appeal. As a general rule, children should never be identified by name in a negative context and without their parents' consent. To try ...

Re: Some parents still not getting the message?
Ok, so what was my point in posting this? To point out what happened and hopefully to focus parents' minds on their primary responsibility to look after their children. As I stated in a previous post, there are certain details that I will not post here that would go a long way towards addressing my ...

Re: Some parents still not getting the message?
You've obviously got some grievance, Mr. Stupid, but beyond this response you'll have to find someone else to air it with. Nowhere do I seek to tar all parents as imperfect etc... This was a specific, isolated incident. All parents love their children, but maybe some need to reflect on their safety ...

Re: Some parents still not getting the message?
Hi somewhere_else. There are reasons why I don't want to be overly specific as to where this happened etc... as this is a public forum. I did indeed ask the child that question but the answer he gave (remember he was very young) was very vague. As I said, I looked around to see if there was anyone w...

Some parents still not getting the message?
I was walking home carrying my groceries a little earlier when a young boy (5/6 years old) greeted me. Nothing wrong there and I was more than happy to say hello back. Children of that age being curious, he asked me where I was going. I told him I was going home. I expected that to be the end of it....

Re: Donabate Clinic
So the medical card patients were written to whereas the private patients were just taken for granted: quite the metaphor for modern Ireland. I'm glad to hear though that you're satisfied with the service. As regards things being up in the air, it's been nearly three months and to be honest I think ...

Donabate Clinic
I've been lucky enough not to need to see a doctor since our beloved Dr Martin's death, but I was wondering how the clinic is doing and how satisfied people are with the new arrangements. I realise this is a sensitive issue - believe me I was devastated by Cathal's death - but I am a little disappoi...

The Gaeilge DB signs
Hello all, First time poster here so greetings and congrats to those behind the site. I realise this may be a tad controversial but it's been on my mind - or perhaps in my face - for a while. The Gaeilge DB initiative was a great idea and the community did extremely well. However, it has been over f...
