Re: Honours Maths for Teachers
Of course they should. But your teacher had a curriculum to stick to and teach. Attack the system by all means but blaming an individual teacher for the book list is just silly. And who's to say she didn't get an A in honours Maths LC  The teacher was in 4th year. She was actively telling peop...

Re: Honours Maths for Teachers
You mean to tell me children should only read two books and two plays for 5 - 6 years secondary school. That's terrible. Children should be reading all the time, finding out about the world and finding out what stimulates them. Imagine, we had our kids talking about the latest Simon Singh pop Scienc...

Re: Honours Maths for Teachers
What a fool I was thinking that I could rationally discuss this. The language teacher in question will never teach maths; the art teacher will be relying on a completely different skillset to the history teacher. You are the one defending sub-standard education because you would rather set arbitrar...

Re: Honours Maths for Teachers
I There is a theory of multiple intelligences. Am I hoping in vain that you might have heard about it at some point? I would hate to be a child coming home to you with such an 'unintelligent' school report. Exactly, my point. Someone who is good at both English and Maths will usually be good at the...

Re: Honours Maths for Teachers
I struggle to see why a specialist teacher of languages, history, art, music etc. should require higher level maths specifically. That's ridiculous Honours Maths and Honours English are generally a good indicator of someone's intelligence and it would make sense it teachers had a reasonable level o...

Re: Honours Maths for Teachers
Last years points requirement for teaching in St. Pats was 460. That to me already sets a high academic standard. Good point. I believe a minimum of a B grade or an A grade in pass maths should be a requirement (maybe it is already??), however I don't feel that for primary teaching, honours maths s...

Hi Topsyturvey, thank you for your reply. I'm sorry that line made you feel uncomfortable. Would you elaborate on why it did? What I was trying to express is something of what Jesus does when he said (it's Mark's gospel in the Bible, chapter 2, verse 17): "it is not the healthy who need a doct...

I suppose they genuinely believe it is not exploitation. They want a baby so much they overlook all they sinister stuff they are engaging in. That's what selfishness does. Put your own benefit above and beyond the misery you inflict on others.

The ethics of surrogacy
Ok so last night on RTE an Irish couple in their 50's who couldn't have a baby flew to India and paid an Indian company 30K to fertilise three eggs from one Indian woman and put it in the womb of another India woman. The three eggs were successful and due to be babies but when all three are successf...
