Re: Red kayak taken from Kilcrea Rd / Malahide Estuary

That's amazing! I realised after posting that I wrote this in more of an accusatory way than I perhaps should have. If the person feels comfortable, feel free to drop me a DM and we can organise to directly return it instead. I imagine they thought it was abandoned which is completely understandable...

Red kayak taken from Kilcrea Rd / Malahide Estuary

Hi, There was a red kayak taken yesterday from the end of the Kilcrea Road at the Malahide Estuary. It belongs to the Swords / Malahide Canoe Club (who rely purely on donations). The kayak got loose in a recent storm and they had been looking for it. It was there until yesterday morning but when the...

Re: Commuting from Donabate

I also cycle to work in the city from Donabate. Have done so for the last decade or so. Of course it depends on how fast you ride, but the ~24km take me about 50-60mins. As Stromboli said, riding in one day and home the next, using the train for the other two legs can be a good way to start if you f...

Couldn't agree more. In general though, I really don't understand why zebra crossings with globes (which puts the onus on the person in the car to stop) are not deployed more widely.

What people should do and what people actually do are very different things in many cases, unfortunately.

Re: The Links Pedestrian Crossing

I would posit that it's because people in cars/other motor vehicles frequently ignore or don't see red lights, especially when it's busy. Continuing to have the traffic warden in place is likely much safer. wrt your being delayed by the mother and child crossing with the traffic warden's help, I sus...

Re: 5G phones

> Powercut this morning - our phones went also, no 4 g. Is this the same for all networks? I came here to ask the almost the same question. We have Vodafone and eir mobile, the former disappears immediately while the latter takes a bit longer and then also disappears. Do any of the networks continue...

Re: New road Settlers

If any of you were consistently treated the same way that you're talking about these folks, I suspect you'd also begin to lose respect for your (likely temporary) surroundings as well. The small-mindedness, intolerance and snobbery on display in this thread is a lot more disgusting than any rubbish ...

Re: New road Settlers

See the travellers have moved in on the new road by the junction for Donabate. Can't help but notice that they have been burning the trees that were there and also burning their rubbish too. Wonder has anyone else had a close call with the traveller kids playing on the road late at night?? Nearly h...

Re: Regret Buying Home in DONABATE?

I think it is important to discuss. I bought to live here a few months again and lots of good but some bad. I have seen major issues with antisocial behaviour in the village and sometimes this trickles into the estates. We need to highlight the issue with the politicians who are calling to the door...

Re: Regret Buying Home in DONABATE?

Public transport is shockingly bad. I can only presume you've never lived in a part of the Dublin area where this is actually true. Obviously there is a lot of room for improvement, but the train line, while busy, is far superior to what most of Dublin commuter towns have to rely on: buses or cars....

Re: Regret Buying Home in DONABATE?

So you're saying local representatives are useless, planning is poor, traffic is bad and a minority of people engage in antisocial behaviour...you could be talking about anywhere. Best thing is to sell up and move on and take a real hard look at where you move to - let us all know when you find som...

Re: Blanket virtue signalling post

Oh sorry, the OP in the particular thread was whinging about having to use self-service checkouts (while, in fact, themselves virtue-signalling about the loss of minimum wage jobs). The piece about pastries was in the same thread, so I'm surprised you couldn't find it. ;)

Re: Blanket virtue signalling post

In fairness, there's a difference between discussing local topics of interest and whinging about being overcharged 60c when buying some pastries in SuperValu. In that instance a bit of a reality check is clearly necessary. :) ps: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jan/20/virtue-signallin...

Re: Portane's Greatest Assett..

I really think a seafood restaurant or a sea fishing/boating business would do well there. I'm surprised the Waterside doesn't hire a good seafood chef and re-invent itself. They have a new restaurant now, "Samphire", run by the chef formerly of Cruzzo's in Malahide: http://www.watersideh...
