Fingal survey on local heritage

Fingal is looking for feedback on local heritage and how this should be publicised:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/dpheritage

There are paper copies of the survey in the library too.

Might be a good opportunity to shape how local history is presented.

Re: Donabate and Portrane: A history

Off the back of this thread I asked for the book in the Newbridge shop, but the girl at the counter had never heard of it.

It was/is in the library too, but wouldn't mind my own copy of it.

Re: Cycling the Hearse Road

Not to add fuel to this, but I imagine the Fingal Coastal Way will draw more casual cyclists to the area once it gets built. Newbridge is a natural access point for a fair population to the west, and a lot of those will end up using Hearse Rd. or Turvey to get to the park. Vlad, your suggestion to n...

Re: Cycling the Hearse Road

I get the inconvenience for drivers, and choose Turvey over Hearse Rd. whenever I'm on the bike, but ultimately cyclists have equal entitlement here. It's the price to be paid for beautiful scenery and rubbish infrastructure. Pedestrians have the same issue.

Re: New Houses - The Paddocks

FYI, Heat Merchants at the end of Turvey Avenue sell pump mounts, basically foam-backed boards that the pump is attached to. Got one for my place in Beresford. Makes a significant difference to the sound transmitted through the floor. No idea what the setup is in the Paddocks, but worth looking into...

Re: Sidewalk on Turvey avenue / R126 Portrane Road Enhancement Project

That's a ridiculous response from FCC. If the two path projects are in separate locations, what economies of scale do they expect to get? And if there are economies, what's to stop the Turvey path being piggy-backed onto any other similar project in Fingal, considering the planning is already in pla...

Re: Planning permission refused for works associated with 1000 unit development on the peninsula

From memory, that planning application was particularly sneaky because it only included the road network for the development, not the houses or anything else that goes into the entire development. As a result, the EIS was a lot more positive than it should have been. Pretty astounding that FCC appro...

Thanks, it would be great if some of this information ended up on signs within the Turvey nature reserve. There's clearly lots of wildlife around there, and a guide would be handy.

Re: Public Meeting - Planning Moratorium - Tuesday 26th

What I took from the meeting was that a moratorium may not be legal, and even if it is legal it may not be effective. However, in the absence of any other instrument it might keep the pressure on Fingal to provide infrastructure which is so badly needed. There was a lot of "can't do, won't do&q...

Re: New Primary School Donabate 2020

Is 2020 not a bit optimistic so? I'd imagine the housing in that development will start and finish before a school? Probably optimistic. I think it's more lilkely that the Educate Together or Scoil Phadraig schools would be extended to cope with current demand, with a new school dedicated to Ballym...

Re: New Houses at Beresford

Unless things have changed markedly from the first phase, the attics are just left "ready for conversion" when Hora hand the house over. This means bare OSB (chipboard) floors in the attic, and a fold-down attic ladder if you opt for it. If you want to create a living space like those show...

Not strictly "Eating Out" (though you can have a coffee there), but big shout out to An Bacus Beag. Amazing bread, pastries and coffee. It's not cheap, but you can really taste the quality.

No affiliation with them, just a happy customer. Glad they're local, and well worth supporting.

Re: F18A/0673 - Beresford

There was very strong demand for 4-beds in Beresford (at least for the earlier releases), and judging by number of 3-bed attic conversions there are plenty of people who want the extra living space. Still a seller's market, I can see why 3-beds are more attractive for developers.

Re: F18A/0618

Only had a quick look, but this application looks very odd. Extensive road and utility services, without any details on what they'll be used for? How can you assess traffic management (for example) without knowing what the new road network will be expected to serve?! I thought a fully-integrated pla...

Re: New pedestrian entrance to Newbridge park

The entrance was originally supposed to be outside Beresford (just on the corner near Waterlefe) , but I heard that this would require the road to be realigned, presumably to improve visibility.

The new location makes reasonable sense, traffic calming already in place so hopefully it'll be safe.

Only one access road. There's also a route through Beverton for emergency vehicles only, normally closed.

Re: New Houses at Beresford

It's just ordinary weeds on the main green, nothing to worry about. The landscapers cut the grass stupidly short and hence it's stunted by the warm weather. The green has always had plenty of deep-rooted weeds (docks etc.), they're just more noticeable now because the grass is yellow.

Beresford Court looks like the beginning of the 2nd Beresford phase. See Fingal planning application F16A/0535 for details of this. I did something very similar to rataan with the CAT5e cables, but replaced the understairs cable box with a small patch panel instead. There are two different Beverton-Beresford pedestrian links proposed: 1. Between Beresford Green (I think) and Beverton Close. This is in the planning permission for the current Beresford development (ref. F12A/0086) and as such it should have to be provided for the development to complete. The Fing...

Re: New development adjacent to the links

Very high density according to the FCC website. Not in keeping with Donabate. Maybe I'm missing something but I would have thought demand would be more towards 3 bed houses than 2 bed? Wonder what the trends are in the likes of Beresford and Rahilion. The current Beresford phase is probably 80% 3-b...
